Windermere is one of the oldest communities in Orange County and in its centre it preserves many old houses and buildings, enhancing the charm of this small place situated among the ancient oaks and crystalline lakes of Central Florida.
In 2007 it submitted a proposal to annex Isleworth and Butler Bay, both subdivisions with high tax revenues and after long discussions and battles with the county, Isleworth remained unincorporated but Butler Bay was annexed to Windermere.
Living in Windermere offers residents a sense of spaced neighbourliness, with the properties at some distance from each other. Most residents own their homes and tend to be politically conservative.
